The Pentland Hills Chess Club meets at 7:30 p.m. every Tuesday from the beginning of September to the end of June each year, and caters for players of all standards from beginner to strong club players. The club meets at the Loanhead Miners’ Welfare Club, 70-74 The Loan, Loanhead, a mile south of the edge of Edinburgh.

 

New members are welcome to come along, or phone the Secretary  on 0131-440 1618 in advance.

The Club has around 25 members, runs three club competitions, has three teams in the Edinburgh Chess League, one team competing in the Edinburgh Allegro Chess League and one team competing in the Scottish National Chess League. The Club was founded in 1985 and is affiliated to Chess Scotland.

 

Club membership fees are £60 per year (£40 concessions), with new members enjoying a 50% reduction for the first year.

Pentland Hills 1 lost 4-2 to Lasswade, with Pentland Hills 3 narrowly defeated 3½-2½ by Bank of Scotland 2. However, a 5-1 victory over Musselburgh 2 for Pentland Hills 2 aggregates to a 9½-8½ victory over the Rest of the World.

 

Pentland Hills 2 notched up their 5th consecutive win, beating Gorgie/Dalry 4-2.

 

Super Almost Christmas Results Round Up Bonanza!

Pentland Hills 1 suffered defeats against University 1 and Wandering Dragons 1 in their ongoing quest to win Division 1 in 2012/13.  Pentland Hills 2 continued their perfect season with wins against Civil Service 2 and Edinburgh West 2.  Not to be outdone, Pentland Hills 3 picked up a tidy win against Tiger Cubs.
